Project name : The Yas Hotel / The Yas Viceroy Hotel
Concept : "Speed, movement and spectacle to the artistry and geometries forming the basis of ancient Islamic art and craft traditions." - Asymptote Architecture
Year of completion : 2010.
Size : 85,000 sqm.Location : Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. 
Materials : Steel, pivoting diamond-shaped glass panels, concrete. 
Project type :  luxury 500-room hotel with extensive amenities situated above a Formula! Racetrack and within a Yacht Marina.


Key features : 

• Two 300m long elliptical blocks each ten story high.
• One block is a land based structure while the other is located in the Marina inlet waters.
• Large free-span, fuselage like steel bridge spanning the F-1 racetrack below connects both hotel towers.
• The entire complex is covered in a monumental steel and glass lattice grid shell structure serving both the overall form of the building and an environmental purpose for the building by assisting in the stack effect of exiting heated air up and over the facades of the building.

Bit.Fall Project :
An automated display made of rain, creating a water curtain that can display images and texts : 320 nozzles, controlled via computer software (Processing) by electromagnetic valves, emit individual parts of water.

Bit.Flow Project :
A certain type of liquid is pumped through a 45 meter long tube laid out on a wall, this project was a prototype and a transparent liquid serves as an invisible carrier while a tinted one forms drops or lines, as an equivalent of one or several pixels
By using a motion-tacking device, a computer program (Processing) imposes order, pumping the fluids into the tube in controlled measure to form linear patterns creating a meaningful image.

"Like a real mountain, the membrane tries to attract the most important butterfly species, right on the southward migratory route on the American continent. And will provide a resting place for migrating birds and turn into an artificial alternative to the disappeared forests and wetlands."

L.A.S.E.R. Tag is a cool project created by Graffiti research lab, Originally founded by graffiti writers (taggers), Q-Branch, and Fi5e, they are now a group of 12 artists who tend to explore how can technology can contribute to street art, mainly by hacking the technology itself such as the project we have here called L.A.S.E.R Tag. L.A.S.E.R Tag is a project that allows it's users to with light directly on buildings, displaying it on a very large scale.

The lab even published a how to for the public to build their own and create it.

"In the spirt of GRL's and Eyebeam's open source beliefs, we are posting the code and executable
for the Laser Tag application online for you to download, dissect, reuse and hopefully improve. The code is
C++ and compiled in a super old school Codewarrior IDE for windows but it is oepnGL based and written using openFrameworks which is a cross platform library for writing creative code. So it should be very straight forward to run in Visual Studio, DevC++ or even xcode on a mac."
